The last visit for this day was the Cross of Lorraine in Thann. Far before we reached Thann we already saw this big cross at the top of the hill. This monument is for the liberation of the town at December 10.
When we arrived in town we couldn’t find the road to the cross. We found out that there was only a steep footpath to it. We didn’t go to the top because of the warm weather (35ºC).
Thann was liberated after three days of fighting and it was on the borderline of the Colmar pocket. This town was under heavy German fire for another two months. The population couldn’t get out of their shelters before January 29, 1945.
