We had an appointment with Marcel ten Bömer from the Betuws war museum, "The Island" at Heteren. Marcel knows a lot about the events that happened in this neighborhood. He wanted to tell us everything he knew about it. He also showed us the surroundings where the 101st Airborne Division has been during this time that the frontline was near to the river Rhine. The 101st took the place of the English at the start of October 1944. At the end of November, the Canadians took the place of the 101st.
The Betuws war museum, "The Island" is a small museum in a rebuild garage. The entrance is free but a gift for the maintenance is possible. In the museum there are several nationalities of uniforms to see. All these nationalities had been in this part of the Netherlands. Marcel likes to tell a story about every part he shows in his museum. A visit there is highly recommended.
