A lot of fighting's took place at Eerde. Several times the allies and the Germans took it back from one another.
At the Geronimo monument is also the lowest part of a windmill. Geronimo was the yell or chant of the 501st. The upper part was seriously damaged by shootings and had never been rebuild. On September 24, 1944 came three British tanks of the 44th Royal Tank Regiment next to this windmill. The Germans destroyed them by grenade fire before they could take position. The British soldiers who were killed by this action are buried at the local cemetery at the church.
