Encirclement


This route leads from Alençon, via Argentan to Chambois and from there it leads together with the route Outcome and ends in L’Aigle.

The American soldiers went to Falaise to encircle the German Army. After the Falaise pocket was the way to freedom for France passable. After three days the allies liberated Paris.

During the battle of Normandy, 90,000 allied and German soldiers were killed. The total loss of killed soldiers, soldiers missing in action or held prisoners of war was above 600,000. There were also between 15,000 and 20,000 civilian victims and most of the villages were left in ruins.
